A Plaines Beaded Scabbard with Fringe is a traditional Native American artifact from theGreat Plains tribes (such as Sioux, Cheyenne, Crow, Arapaho, or Blackfoot), often called a knife sheath or knife scabbard.  These are leather (usually buckskin or native-tanned hide) cases for knives, elaborately decorated with glass beadwork in geometric patterns and featuring long fringe for both aesthetic and practical purposes—like movement during riding or dancing, and to help brush off insects or debris.
