The Anasazi, now more accurately called Ancestral Puebloans, were a prehistoric Native American culture thriving in the Four Corners region (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico) from roughly 100 BCE to 1300 CE. Their pottery is a hallmark of their material culture, evolving from simple utilitarian vessels to intricate painted wares. A "prehistoric Anasazi pottery jar" typically dates to the Basket maker III (500–750 CE) through Pueblo III (1100–1300 CE) periods, before their migration south around 1300 CE, possibly due to drought or social upheaval.
