A Pomo miniature burden basket is a small-scale version of a traditional conical basket woven by the Pomo people, an indigenous group from Northern California. These baskets represent the pinnacle of Pomo basketry artistry, known worldwide for their intricate weaves, fine materials, and symbolic designs. While full-sized burden baskets were practical items used by women to carry loads on their backs (strapped with a tumpline headband), miniatures were often ceremonial, gifted, or created as treasures, sometimes no larger than a few inches across.
