191003-14 Hopi Carved Saviki Chief Katsina Doll by Leo Lacapa: 11" by Leo Lacapa
11" h
This wonderful Saviki (no English translation) was carved by Leo Lacapa. It is a classic representation of this Snake Clan Chief Katsina. This particular Katsina mask was stolen from the kiva and sold on the Black Market. This is a prime example of a Katsina that no longer dances because the mask is gone. A beautiful representation of a katsina who no longer dances and is rarely carved.
Leo Lacapa is a carver that we recommend for the collector who wants a quality piece at a reasonable price. Leo is from the First Mesa, above Polacca. His representations are very accurate, his proportions are very good. One of the reasons that this is so is that Leo regularly participates in the First Mesa Kachina Ceremonies. In his early 50s, he is a long-time carver.
