Large blue-green turquoise with black matrix depicting a Zuni woman carved in a seated pose with the quintessential Teddy Weahkee flattened face, "bump" nose, pursed lips, squinting eyes, hair knot in back of head, rotund girth, wearing a shawl with hands holding a baby on the knee. Has a very hard lapidary polish typical of working with high grade hard stone.
One of the finest examples of the masters work on the market today.
Teddy was born ca 1890 and died in 1965 and is one of the renowned "big three" early and mid 20th century Zuni master carvers, along with Leekya Deyuse and Theodore Kucate, and the progenitor of today's extended Weahkee, Leki, Boone, Gasper, Tsikewa and other carving families. Order this very rare museum quality carving now- center piece of any really great collection!
