R. Grey is not a widely documented major Hopi carver, but signed works by this artist appear occasionally in online sales of vintage Native American collectibles, including other kachina dolls like Mudhead or Buffalo Dancer variants. These are typically affordable, mid-century tourist/market pieces rather than high-end contemporary fine art carvings.

The Squash Kachina (known as Patung or Patungkatsina in Hopi) represents a spirit associated with squash or gourds, often tied to agriculture, harvest, and the Pumpkin Clan. Traditional depictions feature a gourd-shaped or squash-like head (sometimes with floral elements like squash blossoms), vibrant painted stripes or patterns in greens, oranges, and yellows, and a stylized body that may include plant motifs or farming symbols. The example by R. Grey appears to be a simpler, smaller "old-style" or miniature carving, common in mid-20th-century pieces made for collectors or the tourist trade.
