About Mother of Pearl
Mother of pearl is used by Native American jewelers and Zuni fetish carvers in a variety of ways.
In Navajo or Zuni jewelry, mother of pearl can be used as a setting in Sterling Silver, or in channel or mosaic inlay in Sterling Silver. It can also be used as the main material for earrings, as pictured above.
In Zuni fetish carvings, one sees mother of pearl as a stand-alone material representing the animal or figure's body, or more often as a part of ornamentation (carved arrowheads in power packs, etc.).
