Ancient, very fine, Alaskan Eskimo Engraved Bone Armor Slat
Native American, Alaska, Inuit, Aleutian, or Punuk peoples, Pre-Contact Period, ca. 100 to 1000 CE. Armor panels were sewn onto a larger tunic to provide protection to a warrior. Armor panel are hand-carved from either walrus or whale bone and hassix drilled attachment holes, and the smooth shape enabled spears and other weapons to be effortlessly deflected.
PLUS lot of 4, includes a rectangular bone armor slat, with six piercings for attachment and engraved with four detailed hunting scenes
length 6.75 in. x width 1 in.; PLUS a fossilized ivory harpoon point, length 3 in.; AND two highly decorated bone awls, lengths 4.75 in. ea41
