"Old Man Acque" was born in 1880 and, like his contemporary Leekya, came to gain the appellation OLD MAN Acque over time. He was best known for carving in sandstone and would often paint his carvings. His sandstone horses were immensely popular amoung Navajos in the area, who often stopped at Acque's house to acquire one. Quite a number of his painted sandstone works are illustrated in Oscar Branson's Fetishes and Carvings of the Southwest. He was the father of the well-known silversmith Horace Iule and brother-in-law to the carver Mawey. ref: Spirit in the Stone, Bahti.
Note some sources have different dates of birth.
